District The Windber Area School District is located in western Pennsylvania near Johnstown and is comprised of Windber, Scalp Level and Paint Boroughs and Ogle and Paint Townships. The district serves approximately 8,000 residents. Windber Area School District is proud to offer its students a high quality education while continuing to be fiscally responsible to our taxpayers. Current enrollment is approximately 1400 and a full range of educational services are offered from K-4 through 12th grades. Our strongest assets are our close community ties and a long standing tradition of excellence in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. High School Windber Area High School provides a variety of opportunities to move beyond basic graduation requirements and prepare for post-secondary experience. Students can participate in internships with a number of local organizations including the Windber Research Institute. For those students that are seeking vocational training in addition to their academics, high quality programs are available through our affiliation with the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center. We also offer six courses that carry a “Dual Enrollment” status and with completion students may earn college credit. Our high school which services grades 9 through 12 is proud to hold one of the highest graduation rates in the region while maintaining a high level of academic rigor. A student-centered staff prides itself on making each student feel a part of the “high school community”. Middle School Windber Area Middle School services grade 6 through 8 and focuses on academics as well as developing the whole student. Our middle school provides a full range of academics that include exploratory courses in music, art, world languages, family and consumer science and technology education. Middle School students are also provided with the opportunity to participate in a number of activities (dances, clubs, sports, intramurals) with peers their own age. An experienced and caring staff addresses the unique needs of the middle level learner by engaging each student as an individual Elementary Windber Area Elementary School offers a comprehensive primary and intermediate level education. The focus of instruction is meeting the developmentally appropriate needs of all students. Our elementary grade structure runs for K-4 through 5th grade and provides additional instruction in art, music, computer, physical education and library. A knowledgeable and dedicated staff along with up to date materials and appropriate technology create a learning environment that allows the needs of all children to be addressed. Our elementary level programs are supported and supplemented by an active PTO. Special Services A variety of support is provided by the district for students with special needs. This range of services includes: Learning Support, Gifted, Speech & Language Services, Counseling, Student Assistance Program, Title 1, and Social Emotional Support. Health services are also a priority with the district with a licensed nurse on staff at each building. Athletics
