11/20/20 - UPDATED MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT, JOSEPH K. KIMMEL
Dear Windber Families,
Earlier today, we reached out to you with guidelines and information regarding our plans to move forward as a District. Now, we are once again reaching out to you with updated information regarding our District’s pandemic status.
Just this evening, we received confirmation of five additional positive student cases within the District, with more students, staff and family members in the process of being tested. At this point, it appears that the cases in our district have been brought into our schools through community spread. We have been diligent in our efforts to keep school open and safe but it is now apparent that we need to take a pause.
The PA Department of Health is currently overwhelmed with requests for guidance, and as such is unable to provide us with immediate, specific recommendations for moving forward. However, as Somerset County has now been seeing substantial increases in COVID-19 cases for the second week in a row, and more of our students, staff and families are either at risk, quarantined or ill, we must make the decision to move to complete virtual learning, effective Monday, 11/23 through Friday, 12/11.
Students in Grades K4-2 should continue with their packets. Students in Grades 3-12 should access their classes remotely through Google Classroom in accordance with their daily schedule. Virtual classes will be in session on Monday, 11/23 and Tuesday, 11/24. They will not be held Wednesday,11/25 through Monday, 11/30 for Thanksgiving Break. Virtual classes will resume on Tuesday, December 1st. Head Start and the Learning Lamp Before and After School programs are closed during this time.
GJCTC students will not be attending their normally scheduled classes at the Richland campus but will be expected to follow their normal high school and GJCTC course schedule remotely.
Next week’s meal pick-up will be Monday and Wednesday between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. at the Elementary and HS/MS.
All athletics and after school activities will be delayed until further notice.
Please continue to do all you can to keep you and your loved ones safe.
