We recognize that schools are much more than educational institutions. Although we pride ourselves on our academic achievements, we understand more than ever the value of supporting the whole student with social emotional learning (SEL) as a priority endeavor during these difficult times. As such, the Windber Area School District, in collaboration with our school counselors, physical education teachers and Assurance Counseling Services LLC are pleased to offer our students Wellness Wednesday sessions during our asynchronous virtual learning days. The goal of these sessions is to promote connections between students while offering social interactions and physical activities to develop and maintain SEL skills.
We are excited to share with you a new initiative aimed at nurturing the mind, body and soul. Wellness Wednesdays are currently in development and will be held on the following Wednesdays - January 6 and January 13. These days are meant as a time for teachers, students, parents and staff to step away and take advantage of fun and meaningful activities. These will be the types of activities that can help focus on the mental, physical and social elements of our daily lives.
In the end, the whole premise is to provide our students and staff a day to revive and have some fun! We know our students miss coming to school and all that is "school" beyond the academics that our staff is working so hard to provide each day. Thank you to the parents, staff and students for the tremendous job that you are doing and I hope everyone enjoys our Wellness Wednesdays!
