Flexible Instruction Days

The Windber Area School District is able to provide the option for Flexible Instruction Days as the District FID plan was approved by the PA Department of Education for the 2022-2023 school year. The options for a FID include providing education in a synchronous or asynchronous delivery model. The District must offer each type of educational delivery model, in the event that more than one FID would be utilized during the 2022-2023 school year. In the event of a FID, at any point for the remainder of the school year, the next and all other FIDs will be a synchronous FID. Please refer to the information provided below for detailed descriptions of a synchronous FID and an asynchronous FID. Please contact your child's Building Principal should you need any clarification or additional information.
IN-PERSON SCHOOL CANCELLED FOR FULL DAY-SYNCHRONOUS DAY
In the event that in-person school is cancelled  for the full day due to weather, we may call a Flexible Instruction Day in lieu of a traditional Snow Day. If a FID day is called, we will be following the procedures listed below for synchronous flexible instruction day.

  • An alert message will be sent to families to inform them that the weather related school closure will be handled as a SYNCHRONOUS Flexible Instruction Day. (FID)
  • Students will need to follow the daily building schedule.
    • Students in Grades K4-5 will follow the Elementary School schedule. Students in Grades K4-2 will log onto their iPad and access the Seesaw app to participate in activities as lead by each classroom teacher. Students in Grades 3-5 will log onto their Chromebooks to follow the schedule for each teacher in the subject area rotation for Grades 3-5. Students in Grades 3-5 will be given additional schedule information after they log in and communicate with their Homeroom Teacher.
    • Students in Grades 6-12 will follow the Middle School or High School schedule and log onto their Chromebooks to follow each class in their individual schedule.
    • Students must complete their posted assignments as directed by their teacher(s) and/or by the end of the FID day (HS/MS 2:30 pm and Elem 3:00 pm) in order to receive full attendance for the day.
