Range of Services

Our School Social Worker offers a range of services aimed at breaking down barriers to learning:

  1. Psychosocial/Intake Assessment: When a referral is received from the school district, our School Social Workers meet with parents or caregivers. During this initial assessment, we gather family history and understand the nature of concerns. This allows us to develop tailored treatment goals, research available resources, and provide immediate guidance to address the situation. Collaboration with school staff and outside agencies is also a vital part of this process.
  2. Case Management: Based on the information gathered during the intake process, we provide information and resources to meet the student's needs. Our School Social Workers assist families in navigating the referral process to access essential community resources, including mental health interventions, medical assistance, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). We also connect families with services like outpatient counseling, addiction rehabilitation, and other community human service agencies.
  3. Consultation: We work closely with educational and community-based teams to review interventions and programs tailored to meet each student's specific needs. Our School Social Workers actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP), Individualized Service Plan Team (ISPT), and Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) meetings. We serve as liaisons between parents and schools, fostering a strong home-school partnership through home visits and phone calls.
  4. Individual/Group Counseling: Our School Social Workers provide counseling services to students and parents, both individually and in group settings. These services help students cope with various situations, address social and emotional factors affecting educational progress, manage behavior, and promote communication and cooperation.
  5. Professional Development: To ensure we provide the best possible support to our students, our School Social Workers regularly attend professional development opportunities. We are actively engaged in the IU8 School Psychologists’ and Social Workers’ Consortium, which facilitates networking and professional growth for district social workers and school psychologists in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, and Somerset counties.

We are proud to offer these vital services at no cost to parents. Our ultimate goal is to create an environment where every student can thrive in all aspects of life.  If you have any questions or require our assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help you and your child succeed. Together, we can break down barriers to learning and create a brighter future for our students.
