Dear Windber Families,
I am writing to inform you of a fire alarm incident that occurred earlier today at the elementary school. First and foremost, please know that all students and staff are safe, and no fire occurred at any time.
The alarm was triggered due to a light haze or smoke detected in the teacher’s lounge, which is located near our Kindergarten 4 (K4) and Kindergarten 5 (K5) classrooms. As a precaution, we promptly evacuated students and staff from those areas.
The Windber Fire Department responded quickly to the alarm, assessed the situation, and confirmed that it was safe for us to continue normal operations. We are extremely grateful for their leadership, swift action, and ongoing support in ensuring the safety of our students and staff.
Although the audible alarms have since stopped, the strobe lights continued to flash, and our team is still working to fully reset the fire alarm system with the help of our maintenance staff. All room temperatures have been checked and they are suitable for completing the day. We had classes and students go outside while we addressed the situation and allowed the haze to clear.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding and support as we address this technical issue, and we will continue to keep you updated if needed.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Mr. Vuckovich
