Overview

Welcome to our school district's Federal Programs Department, where we are committed to providing equitable and comprehensive educational opportunities for all students. This department, led by the Director of Education - Mr. Glenn Gaye oversees several essential programs ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education.  The Windber Area School District participates in a number of federally funded programs that supplement classroom and professional development activities in the School District, including Title I, Improving Basic Programs, Title II, Enrichment Grants, and the Ready to Learn Grant.

The Windber Area School District’s ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) Title I program is a federally funded supplemental educational program that provides financial assistance to improve educational opportunities for students needing assistance in Reading. Title I programs are designed to help students meet the state content in performance standards in Reading and Mathematics. Under Title I, we prioritize meeting the needs of students who require additional support in achieving academic success. This federally funded program enables us to implement targeted interventions, provide extra resources, and offer specialized instruction to students who may face challenges in their learning journey. We work closely with schools, teachers, and families to develop individualized plans that address specific academic needs and foster growth.

Title II focuses on enhancing the quality of teaching and strengthening the professional development opportunities for our educators. By investing in the continuous growth of our teachers, we strive to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver effective instruction that engages and empowers students. Through workshops, training sessions, and collaborative initiatives, we promote innovation, instructional best practices, and ongoing support to create an environment conducive to student achievement.

Title IV, also known as the Student Support and Academic Enrichment program, enables us to enrich the educational experiences of our students by supporting a well-rounded education. This funding allows us to expand access to high-quality programs in areas such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), arts, physical education, mental health services, and technology integration. By providing diverse opportunities for students to explore their interests and talents, we aim to cultivate their holistic development and prepare them for future success.

Lastly, our ESL programming is dedicated to supporting students who are English language learners. We recognize the unique challenges they face in acquiring language proficiency and understanding academic content. Through our ESL program, we provide specialized instruction, resources, and language development strategies to help students become proficient in English while ensuring their continued academic progress. We collaborate with teachers, parents, and community partners to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that celebrates cultural diversity and promotes academic achievement.

At the heart of our Federal Programs Department is our unwavering commitment to providing an excellent education for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through our Title I, Title II, Title IV, and ESL programming, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning community where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We invite you to explore the resources and opportunities available through our department and join us in our mission to inspire and empower every student to reach their full potential.
