The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has launched a new FAFSA Requirement webpage to help schools, students, and families prepare for the implementation of Act 47 of 2025.
Beginning with future graduating classes, Pennsylvania students will be expected to meet a postsecondary financial aid application requirement as part of their graduation process. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure that all students have access to information about financial aid opportunities that can help make college, technical training, apprenticeships, and other postsecondary pathways more affordable.
It is important for families to know that no student will be prevented from graduating or otherwise penalized for not completing the FAFSA. Students can satisfy the requirement in one of three ways:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete the Pennsylvania State Aid Form (if applicable)
- Submit a signed opt-out form
