Shade Shakes Up Windber

The Panthers struck first early in the first quarter with a touchdown pass from Shade’s star quarterback Brady Fyfe to senior running back Matt Addleman. Fyfe then ran the ball in for the two point conversion. With 8:13 left to go in the 1st, the Panthers were up 8-0.
Shade continued to dominate the 1st with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Fyfe to Senior Austin Mauger, and a 57-yard touchdown run by Fyfe, with a successful two point conversion attempt by Austin Mauger, to make the score 22-0 Shade at the end of the first quarter.
Shade started off the second quarter with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Fyfe to Junior wide receiver Tyler Valine, to make the score 28-0.
The Ramblers had an answer though, late in the 2nd. Quarterback Tommy Hanik’s pass was completed to junior wide receiver Evan Custer for a 50-yard pass with Custer being taken down on the 7-yard line. The Ramblers capitalized on Custer’s catch when Hanik took it in for Windber’s first touchdown of the night. Custer then kicked the extra point making the score Shade 28 Windber 7 with 1:28 left in the first half.
Shade wasn’t done for the half, though. With 46 seconds left on the clock, Brady Fyfe threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Vince Fyock, with Austin Mauger taking it in for the two-point conversion. The score read Shade 36 Windber 7 at the end of the half.
Shade started off the 2nd half quickly with a 17-yard touchdown run by Fyfe for the Panther touchdown, making the score 42-7 Shade with 10:11 left in the 3rd quarter. Feeling confident with his lead, Shade head coach Don Fyfe started to run the clock.
The Ramblers weren't going to go down without a fight, though, with Windber’s freshman Dylan Tomlinson taking it around his own left side for a 41-yard Rambler touchdown, making the score 42-13.
To end the scoring, Windber’s Logan Moore scored on a 17-yard touchdown run with 2:51 left in the game, to make the final score Shade 42 Windber 19.
Despite the loss, Windber saw underclassman Dylan Tomlinson step up for the team, rushing for 70 yards and 1 touchdown.
When asked about the game, freshman center and defensive tackle Nathan Grohal stated, “We made too many minor mistakes, and when you put them together, you set yourself up for failure. We just have to fix our little mistakes, put this one behind us, and prepare ourselves for Homer Center next week.”
With the win, the Shade Panthers improved to 9-0 on the season. They will play Ligonier Valley next week. The Windber Ramblers became 5-4 on the season, and will play Homer Center next week in Windber.
