Wildcats Wash Out Windber

The game started off relatively slowly after Homer Center kicked off to start the game. The first touchdown was scored by senior running back Garrett Mock on a 7-yard dash into the endzone with 4:50 left on the clock for the first quarter. The extra point split the uprights, making the score 7-0 Homer Center at the end of the first quarter.
Neither team scored until late in the second quarter when Homer Center’s sophomore quarterback Ben Schmidt threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to junior split end Cobe Daugherty with 2:26 left in the half, with a good extra point. The Ramblers had an answer, though, when Windber’s Jeremy Layton ran the ball for a 7-yard run into the endzone, with junior Evan Custer kicking the extra point, with 18 seconds left to go in the half. At the end of the first half, the score read Homer Center 16 Windber 7.

The only score in the third quarter was the Wildcat’s Ben Schmidt’s 2-yard touchdown, with a successful extra point attempt, to make the score 21-7 Wildcats at the end of the third.

The Wildcats started off the fourth quarter quickly with a 46-yard dash from quarterback Schmidt, putting Homer Center in great field position. The Wildcats capitalized on Schmidt’s run when senior running back Logan Williams covered 3 yards for the Homer Center touchdown. The extra point was no good, thanks to an excellent block from Windber’s Freshman Aiden Gray. The Wildcats scored one more time, when D'Shaun Robinson scored on a 27 yard breakaway touchdown run, and a good two-point conversion try, to make the score 35-7 with 7:29 left to go in the game. Windber wasn’t done, though, with a touchdown run by senior Chase Basset, and a successful two-point conversion attempt by Landan Gipe, to make the final score Homer Center 35 Windber 15.

With the loss, the Ramblers’ record went to 5-5. The Windber Ramblers will play the Shade Panthers at Shade this Friday.
