Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports

We are excited to introduce you to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), a proactive and positive framework that promotes a safe, respectful, and supportive school environment for all students.
PBIS is based on the belief that by teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors, we can prevent challenging behaviors and create a culture of success. It focuses on creating clear expectations, providing consistent, and positive reinforcement, and teaching social-emotional skills to help students thrive academically and socially.

At our school, PBIS is implemented through a multi-tiered system that supports the needs of all students. This tiered approach ensures that every student receives the appropriate level of support, whether they require universal, targeted, or individualized interventions.

At the universal level, we establish clear expectations for behavior and promote a positive school climate through school-wide initiatives. Our school community collaboratively develops a set of behavioral expectations that are taught to all students, staff, and families. These expectations are reinforced and celebrated through various recognition systems, such as acknowledgment programs and incentives.

For students who may require additional support, we offer targeted interventions at the secondary tier. These interventions are designed to address specific behavioral needs and provide additional guidance and instruction. Small groups or individualized plans are implemented to help students develop the skills they need to succeed academically and behaviorally.

At the tertiary level, individualized support is provided for students with more intensive behavioral needs. A team of professionals works collaboratively with the student, family, and other stakeholders to develop a personalized behavior intervention plan. This plan outlines strategies, accommodations, and supports to help the student overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

PBIS is not just about managing challenging behaviors; it also focuses on teaching important social-emotional skills that help students navigate the complexities of life. Our school integrates social-emotional learning into daily instruction and provides opportunities for students to develop skills such as self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship-building, and social awareness.

We firmly believe in the power of PBIS to create a positive and inclusive school culture. By implementing PBIS, we foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes student well-being, academic achievement, and positive relationships among students and staff.
