The Windber School District has a structured approach to its board meetings, with the aim of ensuring thorough deliberation and effective decision-making. One of the key components of this process is the monthly Work Session, typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. During the Work Session, the Board of Directors and the Administration come together to review and discuss the items that will subsequently be presented for formal ratification at the regular Voting Meeting, which is scheduled for the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

The Work Session serves as a critical prelude to the Voting Meeting and plays a pivotal role in the decision-making process. During the Work Session, board members have the opportunity to dive into the details of each agenda item, ask questions, seek clarification, and engage in in-depth discussions. This forum allows for a comprehensive examination of the proposed matters, which is essential to ensure that they align with the District's goals, policies, and the best interests of the students and community.

  • Work Sessions are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month unless otherwise noted.
  • Regular Meetings (voting meetings) are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

In contrast, the Voting Meeting, which follows the Work Session, is the formal gathering where board members cast their votes on the items that have been previously discussed during the Work Session. The Voting Meeting is the stage at which official decisions are made, and it provides transparency and accountability by allowing the public to witness the final determinations of the Board. While discussions can occur during Voting Meetings, they are typically more focused on formalities, with a primary focus on voting to approve or disapprove the matters presented. If the board during a work session cannot reach a consensus the board may choose to not recommend the action item be placed on the agenda for voting during the following meeting or may request additional information prior to the vote being taken.

In essence, the Work Session is a forum for in-depth exploration and dialogue, while the Voting Meeting is where the decisions are officially ratified. This structured approach ensures that the Board of Directors can make well-informed and considered decisions that are in the best interest of the Windber School District and its stakeholders.

Meetings follow an agenda that is developed by the Superintendent in consultation with the President of the Board.  Copies of the agenda are provided to visitors and are available via the District's website on Monday afternoon prior to the board meeting.
