WINDBER AREA COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROVIDING MEALS IN APRIL

Windber Area Community Kitchen will be providing meals for the month of April (except Sundays) beginning on Thursday April 2. All Meals will be served curbside in to-go containers. Times of pick up are 3-4:30pm at Calvary UMC in Windber located at 1800 Stockholm Ave across from the Quemahoning

SCHOOL CLOSURE EXTENDED - MEAL DISTRIBUTION UPDATES

Governor Tom Wolf has ordered the closing of all Pennsylvania schools in the Commonwealth to remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19. Students would return to school on April 9, unless extending the closure is needed in response to the situation with the virus at that time. If you need to call the school during the mandated closure please dial (814) 467-4567 extension 801 please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

UPDATE ON SCHOOL MEAL DISTRIBUTION: We will be offering breakfast and lunches on a Monday and Thursday distribution schedule. The Monday pick up will be inclusive of meals for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The Thursday pick up will include meals for Thursday and Friday, as well as a W.A.C.K. Pack and additional donated items for the weekend. We will continue to distribute at the same pick-up locations from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays during school closure unless otherwise directed by the state.

TIMELINE EXTENDED FOR SCHOOL CLOSURE

The Department of Education (PDE) announced today all schools in the Commonwealth will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Under the new timeline, school buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation and arrange other business operations. Students would return to school on April 9, unless extending the closure is needed in response to the situation with the virus at that time.
