MEET THE TEACHER NIGHTS & COMMUNITY PEP RALLY

K4 & K5 Orientation & Meet the Teacher Night will be held at Windber Elementary School on Wednesday, August 15th from 6 to 8 p.m.

Meet the Teacher Night will be held on Thursday August 23rd from 6 to 7:30
at the Elementary for grades 1-5, MS for grades 6-8, and the HS for grades 9-12.
Immediately following Meet the Teacher on 8/23, a "Meet the Rambler Community Pep Rally" will be held at Windber Stadium beginning at 7:45 for the public.

SUMMER ART CAMP

A Summer Art Camp will be held at the high school the week of July 30 to August 2nd. Students in Grades 4 through 7 can register in the HS/MS or Elementary Offices. Art Camp will be held from 9 to 1 and lunch will be provided.

WINDBER STUDENTS WIN BERWIND MURAL CONTEST

In April, Windber Area Senior High Students were given the opportunity to participate in a mural contest held by Berwind Coal. Several students participated in this contest and the top three murals were chosen. A banquet was held by Berwind Coal at Bella's at the Coal Heritage Center on Thursday, July 12th.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

Reminder: If you received a telephone/email message because your child has vaccinations that are required in order to begin the 2018 - 2019 school year, please submit proof of vaccinations to the school nurse prior to the first day of school or your child may risk exclusion.

If students that do not have their updated immunizations in paper copy to the nurse before the first day of school, then students will not be able to participate in all after schools activities or sports'.

If you have already submitted proof of your child's vaccination to the school nurse, no further action is required

5th ANNUAL WINDBER 5K - OBSTACLE CHALLENGE

Join us Saturday, August 4th for our 5th Annual Windber 5K Obstacle Challenge. This event will be held on the Windber Cross Country course. Participants may run individually, with a friend, or better yet on a team of five.
We are excited and anxious to offer a fun; action-packed 5K obstacle challenge. The obstacles will be both mental and physical. Of course, crawling, climbing, and a “little” mud are just a few of the obstacles to keep life interesting.
T-shirts will be given to all pre-paid participants. Limited t-shirts may be available onsite.

WASD Welcomes New Middle School Principal - Dr. Jason Hicks

At the regularly scheduled meeting of WASD's Board of Education on Tuesday, June 19th, Dr. Jason Hicks was hired as the new Middle School Principal. Dr. Hicks comes to us from Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center where he served as Principal, Special Education and Federal Programs Coordinator. Dr. Hicks is a 2004 Graduate of California University with a B.S. in Technology Education, a 2010 graduate of St. Francis University with a Masters of Educational Leadership, and a 2018 graduate of Indiana University of PA with a Doctorate of Administration and Leadership Studies.

FREE SUMMER LUNCH MEALS FOR CHILDREN

The Windber Area School District will be hosting a Summer meal program at the High School. All meals are FREE to children 18 and under. Adult meals are $2.00. The program will start on Monday, 6/18/18 until Thursday, 8/09/18. Meal hours are 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Monday through Thursday.

WASD Summer Library Literacy and Book Exchange Program

The WASD Summer Library Literacy and Book Exchange Program for all students in grades K4-12 will be held beginning the week of June 25 through the week of August 6 (No program the week of July 2-6). The program will be held in the HS Library on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. The library will have books for all ages of students and students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to continue to access the library and read over the summer!
